In 1969, shortly after returning from the Vietnam War, Tommy Henderson came back to his hometown of Dayton, Ohio where, alongside Carl Dronaugh, Raymond Smith, and Ronnie Ditto, formed the Young Mods. It was in the same year that Curtis Mayfield released 'The Young Mods' Forgotten Story' on Curtom Records, and because of Henderson's vocal similarity to that of his Chicago counterpart, the nickname 'Young Mods' is what came to define the vocal quartet.
Their backing group consisted of future members of Slave, Lakeside, The Harden Bros and from the success of their first release on Gang Land records, would spend the rest of the year on a nationwide tour opening up for the The O'Jays, Delfonics & Intruders.
In 1971, the Young Mods would head to Dayton's own Cybertekincs recording studio where they would record their follow up single, 'I Can't Hurt You Back' & 'Who You Going To Run, Where You Going To Hide', the only release on their manager, Wayout Willis' Everblack label.
Several years later the group would return to Cyberteknics to record their third & final single released on Phil Mehaffey's Dayton based label, 'Pork' shortly before the group disbanded. Tommy headed out west to Los Angeles whilst other members pursued their musical careers characterising Dayton's rich funk & disco scene.
