Morphine is an alternative rock band formed in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1989. Their debut album, "Good", was released in 1992.

The band's instrumentation was somewhat unusual for a rock band: frontman Mark Sandman used a two-string bass guitar played with a slide, and added some instruments such as guitar, piano, electronic organ and other self-invented instruments on their albums. Saxophonist Dana Colley played several types of saxophones (mainly baritone), sometimes several saxophones at once, while occasionally playing drums. Overall, this created a rock sound infused with jazz and blues on "Good" and the other Morphine albums.
