Description
1LP Vinyl – JL-052
Killer Scientist mix magick on this brooding heavyweight 1980 gem by dancehall and ragga jungle legend Barrington Levy.
Also known as ‘Doh Re Me’ on its original 1980 pressing – Barrington’s 5th LP after debuting with the landmark ’Shine Eye gal’ – the album was retitled ‘Place Too Dark’ for its ’97 release with Hyman Wright & Percy Chin’s Jah Life. End to end it’s classic tackle, weighing in with the dancehall steppers pressure of its title tune, leavened by Levy’s soothing flow, and dancing thru to the command of ‘Pon Yu Toe’ on thee ruggedest bassline.
Standouts include the late night lovers sway of ‘Roof Over my Head’ and rootsy trot to ‘Walk 2000 Miles’, all laid down by the crack squad including Errol Holt (bass), Sky Juice on drums with Bongo Herman, and of course that lick of spectral suss by Scientist, then at the cusp of forging an resoundingly influential oeuvre.
