While their mammoth Studio One reissues project remains the jewel in Soul Jazz Records crown, the label have also done a decent job of shining new light on some lost classics of British reggae. Their latest release is a compilation of tracks by pioneering lovers rock group Brown Sugar. With the help of Dennis Bovell this South London trio – who included one Carol Simms – topped the charts in the late 1970’s with singles like the eponymous ‘I’m In Love With A Dreadlocks’. This album brings together some of their hits, dubs and extended mixes with interviews with Bovell, group member Pauline Catlin and others. I’m In Love With A Dreadlocks is another fine bit of excavation from Soul Jazz.
