The single "Stand By Your Man" was released in 1970 and reached number 4 in the US R&B charts. Staton's definitive Southern soul version of "He Called Me Baby" also reached a high position on its release in January 1971. Both "Stand By Your Man" and "He Called Me Baby" appeared on Staton's second album, "Stand By Your Man", which was released in late 1970. As with her singles and her debut LP "I'm Just A Prisoner", an advertising campaign initiated by Capitol ran with the slogan "Stand by your radio", among others. The album is one of the cornerstones of Southern Soul. In addition to the tracks listed above, it contains other Stanton classics such as "Mr and Mrs Untrue", "Freedom Is Just Beyond The Door" and "Sweet Feeling".
