Brazilian singer Gal Costa delivers one of the defining statements of the Tropicalia movement with this 1969 release, arriving early in her career as Brazil's musical landscape cracked open. Surrounded by close collaborators Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, Costa pushes her voice into new, elastic shapes, moving easily between psychedelic rock abrasion and intimate MPB sweetness. 'Nao Identificado' and 'Sebastiana' set a restless tone, while 'Divino, Maravilhoso' surges with political urgency and distortion-flecked drama. Elsewhere, 'Baby' and 'Saudosismo' soften the palette, revealing her gift for melody and emotional precision. Across the set, experimentation never feels academic; it's physical, vivid, and fearless, capturing an artist and a movement rewriting the rules in real time.
