12″ Vinyl – HF006V
Heard and Felt’s first artist release from Cy Gorman turned some serious heads in the jazz and beats worlds, getting spins from Jazzy Jeff, Gilles Peterson, Jay Scarlett, Andrew Jervis and Triple J. Now the Melbourne label shows another side with a new release touching on techno, house and even new jack swing.
Trained in jazz guitar, Juxtpose turned to techno after hearing Underground Resistance and Carl Craig interviewed by label boss Ennio Styles on his 3RRR-FM show. Before long, Juxtpose was playing alongside Harvey Sutherland and catching the attention of Stacey Pullen, Roska, Martyn, Slam and Horse Meat Disco.
‘Technometry’ centres around a huge buzzing bassline filled out with jacking drum machine beats, swirling synth pads and a gurgling vocal hook. Christian Vance contributes a raw and driving remix, showing why his skills have been sought out by Derrick May (for a collab in Carl Craig’s studio!), Ripperton, Aril Brikha, Tresor and Versatile Records.
Swedish keyboard maestro Opolopo (remixer to Gregory Porter and Joey Negro) then turns techno into new jack swing with his funky ghostbusting remix.
Also included is ‘Boneshaker’, a percussive and housier track that lives up to its name, sporting a bassline with the weight to match your favourite 80s house classics.
