Pantera's incredible rise to the top of the metal heap has been nothing short of miraculous when you consider theyve made their historic climb with virtually no radio support or MTV exposure. With 4 platinum albums under their belt, 3 gold home videos and 2 Grammy nominations, Pantera are finally garnering the recognition they deserve. Relentless touring since 1990s breakthrough album Cowboys From Hell, has seen them go from local Texas phenoms to mortifying trailblazers of the legendary Ozzfest. Touring with their idols was one of the highlights of Pantera's career.
Now, fans can re-experience the good old days of the hell-raising Pantera's music with three early releases, 1990's Cowboys From Hell, 1992's Vulgar Display of Power and 1994's Far Beyond Driven.
Far Beyond Driven took Pantera's music to an even heavier and more extreme style than on previous releases; settling for a continuous, slow chugging, mid-tempo groove throughout the album.
Far Beyond Driven may have been the group's fastest selling album due to a couple of reasons – the first of which is that it followed the genre-defining "Vulgar Display of Power"; the second reason may have been due to the controversial original cover that was in such poor taste that it had to be replaced with an alternate image of a skull being drilled into. Whatever the reasons for the quick and high volume of sales, the album features extreme heavy metal songs such as "Becoming", "Shedding Skin" and "Slaughtered". These displays of aural overloading could hold their own in many a heavy metal competition.
