After checking it’s playing the right speed a few times, we can confirm Soichi Terada goes hardcore on ’Apes in the Net’, his late ‘90s PS1 game soundtrack .

While best known for crafting opulent deep house since the early ‘90s, Soichi Terada is here found in far more rambunctious jungle and hardcore form matching the energy of a computer game first released in 1999. The styles are all very much in step with the likes of the Wipeout 2097 game that would prompt Evian Christ to thrill a generation too young to rave but hooked on dance music via computer games in the ‘90s.

The lagging cyber-digidub-stepper ‘Spectres Factory’ starts up with a velocity that does not let go across the six tracks, swerving from helter skelter hardcore techno recalling The Mad Capsule Markets in ‘Coaster’, to the jazzier liquid D&B motion of ’Spectors Castle’, the glyding darkside hardcore of ‘Haunted House’, jazz-funky hardcore cubism in ‘Mount Amazing’, and floating ambient jungle shapes in ‘Time Station.’
