This fully acoustic four track album flew in the face of the electronic sounds increasingly becoming popular across South Africa, as well as internationally. The tracks are warm, expansive and display a wonderful fluency with Mbambisa's piano subtly weaving throughout, leaving plenty of space for the band: Zulu Bidi on bass, Monty Webb on drums and saxophonist/flautist Basil Coetzee. This is the first full album reissue of 'Did You Tell Your Mother' since its initial release in 1979, a 40 year wait that has not dulled Mbambis'a sound to any degree. His spirit, forged under the yoke of apartheid, still burns bright and true and his message of unity and freedom is needed as much today just as it was then.
