The Notorious D.I.G. drops a crate or 2..
Too much heavy to fit in your bag.. thats what this ones all about.

Pluggy’s dipped hard into the record box and squeezed out around 400 LPs & 12’s and a nice random box of 7’s with some 70’s Soul.. Jazz, and..??

As you may or may not know, each and everyone of these record drops has included (along with all the originals), a really large amount of new records… Which, not out of laziness, but rather due to the amount thats actually dropping, we tend to neglect mentioning & just pop onto the ‘NEW’ list.. More often than not though a lot of those records deserve a bit of a rundown so you know whats actually on them.. We’ve attempted to do that in this letter with just 4 – 5 of the LPs so u get a little better insight of what we’re up to & how good a lot of this stuff is.. We’re gonna attempt to do this a little more now, so stick with us.

This list features some heavyweight Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, Reggae.. In fact its just full up with good stuff, nice pressings and yeh you know.. a lot of stuff you coulda woulda shoulda but now here it is & its cleeaannn!

So read on dear…. readers & remember we can ship as many records as u want for $10 Australia wide.

Reply to the email or call us to reserve records.

Dexter Johnson – Live at L’etoile (Teranga Beat) $40
Mastered from the original tape this recording of DEXTER JOHNSON & Le SUPER STAR de DAKAR in their last performance before their departure to Abidjan in 1969, captures the energy and quality of these most spectacular performers. The group was led by the inimitable Dexter Johnson, a saxophonist whose unique timbre influenced generations of horn players in Senegal and who can stand with pride next to the great jazz musicians.

“Live à l’Étoile” features many great Afro-Cuban classics, two killer boogaloos and a cover of Wilson Pickett’s “Something You Got”.

Mar Seck – Vagabonde (Teranga Beat) $40
MAR SECK, a delicate singer and songwriter who marked the history of Senegalese music. A cross over between Cuban compositions and Senegalese Folklore, his songs gave birth to Salsa-Mbalax, the popular dance music of ’70s Senegal that went onto influence a new generation of Senegalese musicians.
Featuring 12 tracks recorded over three different sessions,‘Vagabonde’ focuses on the best of MAR SECK’s career.

Banda Black Rio – Maria Fumaca (Mr Bongo) $35
A truly solid album from start to finish. ‘Maria Fumaça’ represents the golden era Brazilian discos-boogie-funk. Mixing R&B, Jazz and Samba Elements, Banda Black Rio was one of the first to undertake the fusion of Essential Brazilian Music with International Black Music. ‘Maria Fumaça’ is the debut album by BBR released in 1977.

BBC Radiophonic Workshop – 21 (Silva Screen) $38
In 1958 the BBC Radiophonic Workshop opened with the aim to enhance in the main, drama output on the Third Programme (now Radio 3) following the development of new electronic music techniques emanating from Europe. Their work expanded across the BBC to take in TV drama (especially sci-fi), schools programmes and themes. The latter being their most celebrated and well known work, Delia Derbyshire’s treatment of Ron Grainer’s theme for Doctor Who.

These ground-breaking compositions provided a major influence on music from The Beatles and Pink Floyd and onwards into the contemporary world of Aphex Twin, Orbital and The Chemical Brothers. “The Radiophonic Workshop, I loved all that, it fascinated me, and still does”. – Paul McCartney.

V/A – Space Echo: Cosmic Sound Of Cabo Verde (Analog Africa) $45
In the spring of 1968, a cargo ship full of musical instrument (Rhodes, Moog, Farfisa, Hammond and Korg) heading towards Rio De Janeiro from Baltimore mysteriously disappeared from the radar. A few months later, a ship was found stranded on the Sao Nicolau Island of Cabo Verde. After the initial disappointment, the cargo was distributed equally in places that had access to electricity, mainly in schools. This in return facilitated the modernisation of local music such as Mornas, Coladeras and Funana.

Analog Africa have compiled the ultimate introduction to what they’re now calling ‘The Cosmic Sound of Cape Verde”, featuring fifteen tracks that have almost never left the island.
