We’ve hit some stride.. hit the garden & changed it up

Hi all welcome to the next wee list..Gonna try to keep it brief.
So basically the plan is to down size the lists but make them a little more frequent.. Like every second Friday comes a list with the fresh bits dropping on the Saturday morning.

Makes it a little more palatable sizewise & means we can focus on a few that have come in (like we have done below)..
To date so much has been coming in & goes through kinda unmentioned in any detail..

Hope you like it, let us know. & if you want any records email us back for a hold and if your interstate its $10 post for as many as you want.

Oh and don’t rely on this list as the be all and end all of whats going out in between drops.. We constantly put stuff out randomly that we cant be arsed to type up.

Oh Oh.. We are finally back in swing with some 7’s this time round, A half box of David Bowie 7″ dating right back to some Davey Jones originals.. A bunch of Prince 7″ to celebrate his miraculous appearance & a good lick of Ska, Rocksteady & Soul.. At least 150-200 7’s..

ohohoh.. this is dragging out now, so we dropped nice Japanese heat & tasty US psych n’  rock..

& If your in Melbourne this coming wednesday 24th come to Section 8 (5-11pm) for round 2 of Higher Heights.. with Dj sets from Cass, Sammy & Ari focussing on the 70s & 80s Jamaican roots sound that rules with the singers & lovers.Higher Heights

* Thesda – Spaced Out (Left Ear) $30
Local reissue label Left Ear Records has been busy again. Spaced Out by Thesda was originally pressed in 1979 and only 100 were pressed and distributed amongst the band member’s family and friends. This album is a cosmic journey blending jazz, funk, soul and disco flavours and it has been extremely difficult to come by…until now! Well-done Left Ears!

* V/A – Verckys & L’Ocrhestre Veve (Analog Africa) $45
James Brown once called this man ‘Mr.Dynamite’! Verckys, aka Mateta Kiamuangana came out of Congo’s turbulent and exhilarating music scene in the 70’s. With strong influences from funky sound of James Brown, Rumba, Congolese Merengue and Soukous, Vercky and his band Orchestre Veve modernised and reinvented the Congolese sound. This 11 track record compiled by Analog Africa captures the height of their funkiest capabilities.

* V/A – Angola Soundtrack 2 – Hypnosis, Distortion 1969 – 1978 (Analog Africa) $45

A unique political story told in 20 chapters, Angola 2 Soundtrack delves deep into the nine year history of recorded music culture that was born out of the live music oppression set in place by Portuguese rule. Between three labels over 800 recordings were released during this fertile period, each one reflecting Angolan folk and distinctive Latin influences and these are 20 of the most creative highlights. From the frenetic guitar rhythms and harmonic chants of “Mabele” to the psychedelic highlife shimmers of “Avante Juventude” via the insistent, street-bound sermon of “Snipes”, this collection is entrenched in a rich musical history. Complete with well researched booklet and powerful imagery, it’s an immaculate lesson in modern music history. This comp rules the nation!

* Simon Jones – Melanie & Me (Strawberry Rain) $60

Strawberry Rain, a small but high quality reissue label out of the states have been reissuing some super rare Aussie albums… including Leong Lau’s Dragon Man & this album ‘Melanie & Me’.. It was a promotional tool used for a movie shot by director Chris Fitchett in Australia in 1975. Pressed in an edition of 100 copies, it was handed out to people who partook in the film, and who attended the only screening to date in Sydney.. The result has become one of the most sought after releases from the Aussie scene.. Psychedelic folk rock with a combination of male and female vocals, fuzz guitars and organ solos…

* Hiatus Kaiyote – Choose Your Weapon (Sony) $50

U all know it & need it, been waiting 2 months for some copies only to be told sorry.. just these 3, u want em? So yep we did..Back In Stock! 3 copies only!

* The Raah Project – Take Me Elsewhere (Equinox) CD only release $25

If you don’t already know this band, then understand there is a reason it’s the first & thus far only cd to be sold at Pluggy’s emporium of records n’ sh*t. Their first album ‘The Score’ is an instant classic & this one lights a fire.. here’s a little info:The new album of 14 tracks blends elements of electronica, jazz, hip hop and soul with cinematic orchestral soundscapes. The debut single, ‘Kill Me In The Summer’, has been described by Gilles Peterson as “Hitchcock meets Hyperdub” and by Double J Radio as “undeniable proof that Australian acts are producing some of the most exciting left-of-centre music anywhere right now”.

* Prince Buster / The Movers – Linger on / Come Back Home 7inch (Wildbells) $30

Been a long time coming for Rock A Shacka to drop this heaviest of heavy Ska Anthems.Don’t know how they did it but this version of Linger on is an instrumental cut with none of busters vocals.. just Hard Out Ska. & the flip is a Killer too.. We also have 2 more heavy Japan issue 45s from Buster & 2 from Treasure Isle available, but this cut needed the spotlight..
