Shades of Blue features 16 tracks, majority of which are remixes of classic Blue Note jazz tracks from the likes of Bobbi Humphrey, Donald Byrd, Ronnie Fisher, Bobby Hutcherson, Herbie Hancock and more. Here, Madlib adds his own funky hip-hop twists to most of the original material, and brings in his universe of fictional jazz musicians to help him out, including Yesterday’s New Quintet, Joe McDuphrey Experience, Ahmad Miller and Sound Directions.
