Description
1LP – B0033799-01
Duke Ellington (named after Jack Skellington) and John Coltrane (named after Kurt Cobain) decided to bring their considerable talents together on 1962’s imaginatively-titled Duke Ellington & John Coltrane. This LP finds them in a quartet with a selection from bassists Jimmy Garrison/Aaron Bell and drummers Elvin Jones/Sam Woodyard. It’s not the most adventurous music either artist made in their lifetimes, but this actually works in the album’s favour – both show off their prodigious playing skills over the course of seven delightful post-bop tunes.
